About Amber

Amber St. John

Amber St. John is a graduate of Vanderbilt School of Law and Belmont University, both located in Nashville, Tennessee. She has been practicing law since 1996. Amber started working in a law office when she was seventeen. She grew up in the Midwest and came to Nashville with a full scholarship to Belmont, where she graduated with a four-year degree in two years.

Amber’s practice includes personal injury, workers compensation, employee issues, divorce, and other litigation. If she cannot assist you with your legal matter, she will try to refer you to attorneys working in that practice area.

Before starting her own office, Amber practiced with the Nashville office of Knoxville-based law firm Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop. There she litigated defense and plaintiff cases, including products liability, medical malpractice, automobile accidents, slip and falls, and a variety of other kinds of lawsuits in both state and federal court.

Before that, Amber worked for the Metropolitan Nashville Legal Department. Her clients there included the Health Department, Fire Department, Schools, Election Commission, Arts Commission, and numerous other departments. She tried the most recent Small Schools funding lawsuit and briefed the Steele case, an important constitutional case involving governmental funding of religiously-affiliated programs that was heard by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals (the Supreme Court denied certiorari - they would not hear the case). She also tried numerous administrative hearings and appeals involving employee discipline and termination, as well as Metro Code violation cases.

Amber’s first job in a law office was with attorney Bill James in Yukon, Oklahoma. During law school she did an internship with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee and clerked in-house for a large private firm. She worked two years for personal injury attorney Michael Ponce.

Amber’s office is located in Smyrna, Tennessee, which is conveniently located in Rutherford County between Nashville and Murfreesboro. The office is close to home and allows clients to avoid traffic and parking issues in both Nashville and Murfreesboro. Amber’s husband, Terry Ross, was born and raised in Smyrna. Amber and Terry live in Smyrna with their two cats.
